The Neuroscience Behind Intuition
Your gut feeling might actually be your brain processing information faster than your conscious mind.
When people talk about “intuition,” it often sounds vague or mystical.
But neuroscience offers another explanation.
Research suggests that intuition may come from something called the somatic marker system, a process where your brain rapidly integrates signals from multiple regions and your body to guide decisions under uncertainty.
In studies like the Iowa Gambling Task, brain activity in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex increased before people consciously knew why they were making a decision.
In other words:
Your brain may know something before your conscious mind catches up.
