Today we’re talking with a man whose work I have followed for a while. That’s because he’s one of the few people that’s actually combining the ancestral wisdom with the cutting edge peptides, nootropics, bioregulators, and overall regenerative medicine. Regan Archibald is one of the world’s leading peptide experts. He also serves as a regenerative therapy and peptide consultant at his award winning clinic he founded in 2004, which is called East West Health, and he created the Peptide Mastery course. Regan is a member of the International Peptide Society and the author of eight books, including the recently released book called The Peptide Blueprint. In my chat with Regan, we talk a lot more about peptides and some of the adjacent fields. Regan Archibald [00:02:17]: Nice to be here Nick.

Nick Urban [00:02:18]: It is an honor to host you and today we are going to talk about all kinds of things that are all in your wheelhouse, including stem cells, functional testing, peptides and a whole lot more. Let’s start off with a controversial idea or a stat or fact you have that relates to your line of work.

Regan Archibald [00:02:37]: I think probably a controversial idea is I believe that the next decade can be your healthiest decade and actually your last decade could be your best decade. If you read Peter Attia’s book Outlive, he talks about this cliff that people go off at the end of life and so the last ten years essentially people are in the waiting room just hoping the grim reaper takes them sooner rather than later. And I think it’s inhumane. Most people, if you’ve read the book, Are Your Prescriptions Killing Me, it’s very obvious that we are probably sedating our elderly population and over medicating them.

Nick Urban [00:03:52]: Regan, before we get into the science and the clinical stuff, what are the things that you do on a daily basis that are nonnegotiables for you?

Regan Archibald [00:03:59]: Yeah, so I’d say number one for me is acupuncture. I get acupuncture every week. I also practice what we call qi gong, which is a form of Chinese breathing exercises, some movement, some meditation. I also spend time in a cold plunge and a sauna. Those are my nonnegotiables. And then peptides are a big part of my daily health routine as well.

Nick Urban [00:05:59]: Tell me a bit about your background. I know you grew up on a ranch and that shaped a lot of how you think about health.

Regan Archibald [00:06:05]: Yeah, I grew up on a ranch in rural Utah and that really gave me this deep connection with nature and understanding of how the body is meant to function. When you’re out working on a ranch, you see the cycles of nature and how everything is interconnected. That’s what eventually led me to study Chinese medicine and then later integrate it with functional medicine and peptides. I saw that you could take the best of Eastern wisdom, things that have worked for thousands of years, and combine them with the cutting edge science of peptides and regenerative medicine.

Nick Urban [00:10:06]: Let’s talk about how you integrate Eastern herbal medicine with peptides. What are some of the combinations that you’ve found work well together?

Regan Archibald [00:10:15]: One of the things that I love is cordyceps. Cordyceps is this incredible medicinal mushroom that has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries. When you pair it with certain peptides, you get this synergistic effect on longevity and blood health. Another one is He Shou Wu, which works beautifully with IGF-1 for enhanced cognition, athleticism, and fat burning. The Eastern herbs prepare the terrain, if you will, and then the peptides come in and do their targeted work much more effectively.

Nick Urban [00:11:00]: What about MOTS-C? I know that’s one you’re excited about.

Regan Archibald [00:11:05]: MOTS-C is fascinating because it’s actually released when you’re in a sauna. It’s a mitochondrial peptide that amplifies mitochondrial health. So when I’m in my sauna doing my daily practice, my body is naturally producing this peptide that’s enhancing my mitochondrial function. Regan Archibald [00:14:45]: Sure. So in your 20s, you’re getting your foundation. Focus on sleep, energy, and body recovery with peptides like IGF-1 and Thymosin Beta-4. These are going to help you build that base. In your 30s, consider enhancement peptides like Cerebrolysin and Selanc for cognitive function. Also upgrade to peptides like Cermorellin and Testamerellin for muscle mass because that’s what you’re going to take into your 40s and 50s. In your 40s, prioritize immune system upgrade and hormone optimization with growth hormone-releasing peptides, Kisspeptin, and A-290. Improve digestive health with BPC-157 and LL-37. In your 50s, continue immune enhancements and gut health with Thymosin Alpha-1, BPC-157, and KPV. Address muscle mass loss with Sarcotropin. And from your 60s onward, use growth hormone-releasing peptides and peptides for mitochondrial health.

Nick Urban [00:20:51]: Let’s shift to diagnostics. What blood labs do you recommend people get?

Regan Archibald [00:21:00]: I think comprehensive blood work is essential before starting any protocol. Even on a limited budget, there are certain markers you absolutely need. I always recommend a full metabolic panel, but the markers I really focus on are homocysteine, liver enzymes, hemoglobin A1C, iron levels, testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone. These tell you more about overall health than almost anything else.

Nick Urban [00:22:45]: How do you use intuition alongside all this data?

Regan Archibald [00:22:52]: That’s a great question. In Chinese medicine, we’re taught to read the whole person, not just the numbers. I use my clinical intuition as a lens to integrate the lab results. Sometimes the numbers look fine but the pattern tells a different story. And sometimes a single marker is off but the whole picture shows the person is actually doing well. It’s about seeing the relationships between markers and between the person’s symptoms, their constitution, and their goals.

Nick Urban [00:27:20]: What about more advanced tests?

Regan Archibald [00:27:28]: There are some incredible advanced tests now that can detect cancer early and assess vascular health for early intervention. These go well beyond standard panels and can catch things years before they become symptomatic. I recommend these for anyone who can afford them, especially as you move into your 40s and beyond.

Nick Urban [00:41:00]: Let’s talk about stem cells. How are you using them at your clinic?

Regan Archibald [00:41:08]: Stem cell rejuvenation has proven to be one of the most effective methods in reversing the signs of aging in our clients. Regan Archibald [01:03:50]: Qi gong in the morning, cold plunge, and then I make sure I’m working on something that challenges me.
