Ozone therapy is nature’s most powerful disinfectant.

And it does far more:

  • Pain relief
  • Detox support
  • Faster wound healing
  • Glowing, youthful skin
  • Inflammation reduction
  • Protection against disease and infection

And much more.

Just one single treatment can trigger deep healing.

Ozone therapy is one of the best-kept not-so-secrets of the last century. It’s safe, and when nothing else works, savvy medical practitioners turn to ozone.

In fact, an old 2008 study found it improves 260+ different conditions. That number has only grown as scientists investigate it further.

With a small investment and a few hours of research, wise biohackers can use ozone at home. But you’ll need the right gear.

Ozone is highly volatile and disintegrates the materials used by Cheap Chinese knockoffs. Plus, their stated dosages vary widely, and the machines fail quickly.

I’ve done the research for you. Such as the science-backed benefits of ozone therapy. Then I compared and reviewed the best ozone machines for optimizing your health. This beginner’s guide contains everything you should know before getting started.

What is Ozone Therapy

Ozone Therapy for Health: Benefits, Uses, & Buyers Guide | Micah Lowe @simplyo3930

Ozone therapy is an alternative health treatment that falls under the category of oxidative medicine. It involves administering ozone (O3) into the body in order to treat specific medical conditions or diseases.

This stimulates the body’s self-regulatory processes and returns it back to homeostasis. Rather than bluntly forcing certain physiological changes as drugs do, ozone allows self-repair and healing to occur.

In fact, ozone stimulates the same cellular repair hormetic pathways as exercise and caloric restriction.

While ozone therapy has been used for over 100 years, it isn’t known outside advanced medical circles. It’s legal in the United States and is widely practiced in Europe and Latin America.

Ozone generating systems are most commonly used for air purification, but also for making ozonated water, and other medical purposes.

Avoid the ones sold for air purification. We’ll focus on water generators and medical-grade (also called pure-grade or lab-grade) generators.

Medical generators are of the highest quality and make ozone using 99% pure oxygen. To do it at home, you’ll need other parts included in the ozone kits listed below.

If that’s too much hassle, you can also buy pre-ozonated supplements, lotions, and products.

By now you might be wondering… how does ozone therapy work?

The Basics of How Ozone Improves Health

Despite over 100 years of successful use, researchers are still uncovering exactly how ozone stimulates healing. The chemical reactions caused by O3 appear to work as a biological response modulator.

This study sums up the current theory nicely,

“We have good reasons to believe that the therapeutic power of ozone therapy consists of simultaneously improving circulation and oxygen delivery, in enhancing the release of autacoids, growth factors and cytokines and in reducing the endogenous, chronic oxidative stress…”

Scientific and Medical Aspects of Ozone Therapy

The exact mechanisms also depend on the delivery. The major differentiator comes down to how you apply the ozone.

Types of Ozone Therapy

The ideal ozone machine depends on your use case and whether you’re looking for full-body systemic treatment, or are just addressing a local issue.

Systemic TreatmentsLocal Treatments
Longevity and anti-agingInfections
AthletesWound healing
EnergySpecific pains
Toxic mold exposureDental health (cavities and gum disease)
Lyme diseaseSkin disorders
Gut problemsUlcers
Immune dysregulationJoint mobility
General painRepairing injuries
Systemic vs local ozone therapy

The way you administer the ozone determines whether the effects are local or systemic.

The most common at-home administration options include:

  • Rectal insufflation
  • Ear insufflation
  • Ozonated water
  • Ozonated creams and supplements

Each has distinct pros and cons.

Intravenous Ozone

IV ozone has been the gold standard treatment for the best results across the widest number of conditions.

There are multiple different IV ozone protocols:

  • EBOO
  • 10-pass
  • MaH/UBI
  • HiDose

Unfortunately, it’s only available in the clinic, and expensive at over $100 per treatment.

People often pair (or replace) an intravenous ozone treatment with the following at-home therapy options.

Rectal Insufflation

If you can overlook the awkwardness and taboo nature of rear-end administration, rectal insufflation is one of the top at-home modalities.

Rectal ozone is easy, pain-free, and a systemic way to oxygenate the entire body. It works immediately by increasing oxygen levels in the gut and liver.

Rectal ozone is commonly used to treat:

  • Constipation (chronic)
  • Hepatitis
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Anal fissures
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Parasitic infections
  • Asthma
  • Circulatory issues
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Rheumatic disease
  • Other viral diseases
  • Athletic performance
  • Anti-aging
  • General wellness support

It’s one of few modalities with efficacy that approaches IV ozone and is generally the go-to option for at-home systemic ozone therapy.

Ear Insufflation

Ear insufflation is applying ozone into the ear canal.

It’s primarily used for locally treating anything related to the head:

  • Brain fog
  • Hearing problems
  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Ear and sinus infections
  • Fungal infections
  • Lyme disease
  • Mold toxicity

Applying ozone to the ear can be safely performed at home, and serious complications are rare.

Ozonated Water

Ozonated water is normal water saturated with extra O3.

Medically, ozone-infused water is used for:

  • Dental health issues (cavities, receding gums, infections, surgical wounds)
  • Skin issues (ulcers, infections, slow-healing wounds, sores)
  • Gut health and digestion

It works best for conditions and infections of the skin or mouth because it works two-fold. First, it eliminates infections. Secondly, ozone water boosts the natural healing process.

Though it has a history of success dating back to World War I, ozone water has less research than other modalities.

People like it because it’s non-invasive, easy, and popular machines can produce it.

Ozonated Creams, Supplements & Other Products

Albeit the rarest form, ozone does come in pre-blended products.

You can find it compounded into creams, drops, oils, and special supplement capsules.

Most ozonated products are used for:

  • Oxygenating tissues
  • Immune system strengthening
  • Increasing energy
  • Accelerating athletic recovery
  • Respiratory condition treatment
  • Skin health
  • Gut healing

Ozone products are also non-invasive and easy to use. Again, there’s little scientific research on this method of ozone administration.

Health & Performance Benefits of Ozone Therapy

O3 Therapy Health Benefits

Ozone therapy has attracted a wide audience because it restores proper cellular function, and improves the root cause.

In fact, many doctors envision a near future in which ozone treatments replace antibiotics as a common first line of defense.

From the chronically ill suffering from diseases and conditions like Lyme, cancer, anxiety, depression, skin issues, and other infectious illnesses.

Athletes use it to oxygenate their tissues, turbocharge their energy, and perform higher.

Other high-achievers use ozone to boost cognition, slow the aging process, and keep their health optimized over the long term.

Some of the most popular uses include improving:

  • Pain
  • Infection
  • Inflammation
  • Detoxification
  • Wound & injury healing

Benefits often occur on the very first session. And ozone treatments are inexpensive. This accessibility explains its massive resurgence in recent years,

“It is time for a full insertion of ozone therapy within pharmaceutical sciences, responding to all the requirements of quality, efficacy and safety, rather than as either an alternative or an esoteric approach.”

Ozone: A Multifaceted Molecule with Unexpected Therapeutic Activity

The effects and outcomes do vary based upon the route of administration.

Now, let’s explore some of the benefits of ozone therapy in more detail.

Anti-inflammatory

One of the chief uses of ozone is to quell inflammation. Whether from a sports injury, surgical procedure, or disease. Since inflammation is widely considered “the root of all disease”, this alone is notable.

Ozone fixes many of the mechanisms responsible for inflammation.

New papers constantly discover that it significantly improves all kinds of health conditions. Perhaps best stated here,

“The results suggest that ozonated water has anti-inflammatory properties and is a potential therapeutic option for acute inflammation.”

Anti-inflammatory effects of ozonated water in an experimental mouse model

The anti-inflammatory action applies to other routes of administration too.

Boost the immune system

Ozone improves immune health. Doctors use it for this often, and with outstanding success.

It optimizes immunity in several ways:

And via many other mechanisms.

Anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-endotoxin, anti-biofilm

How do we combat antibiotic-resistant microbes?

Science suggests ozone therapy kills viruses, fungi, bacteria, endotoxins, biofilms, and other parasites.

Some of the impressive antimicrobial findings include:

So far the evidence is clear. Ozone boosts immunity and kills all kinds of pathogens.

Reverse brain damage after a stroke or TBI

Ozone also has some neuroprotective effects. Lack of oxygen directly harms the brain.

According to multiple papers, supplying oxygen can alleviate symptoms and even reverse damage across multiple conditions:

  • Boosts cognition and preserves neurons in rats with hypoxic-ischemic brain injury
  • Inactivates the NF-κB signaling pathway alleviating brain injury in rats with stroke
  • Improves radiation-induced brain injury
  • Ameliorates the behavioral and pathological damage of Alzheimer’s in mice

Those with brain injury need this restoration of normal neurometabolic function.

A 2011 paper recaps it,

“This report supports our previous works about the effect of ozone therapy in cerebral blood flow, and it suggests the use of ozone therapy in ischemic and hypometabolic brain syndromes such as stroke or RBI.”

Brain ischemia and hypometabolism treated by ozone therapy

This is especially exciting because those suffering from brain injury have few standard options.

Reduce heart attack risk & improved cardiovascular health

Ozone plays a role in supporting cardiovascular function.

One 2017 study found a direct correlation between the duration of ozone use, how long after the injury it’s administered, and the patients’ outcome.

Several other papers have found similar cardioprotective effects. The heart also contains an extremely dense concentration of mitochondria. As described later, upregulated mitochondria could help protect the heart.

Better detoxification

The body has a natural detoxification system to keep everything running properly. Today, however, we’re inundated by toxicants from our environment and everything we touch, breathe, and ingest.

Our bodies can’t keep up.

Ozone therapy boosts the metabolism, levels of the body’s master antioxidant called glutathione, and actively detoxifies certain things we’re constantly exposed to.

It’s a staple modality employed by detox clinics.

This is one area I’d like to see more research conducted.

Injury repair, improved joint mobility & reduced need for surgery

You might not suspect that ozone has orthopedic use, but more recent research is applying it to the musculoskeletal system. This is one of the fastest-growing applications.

Current research shows ozone helps:

In the last few years, there has been an increasing focus on using ozone for spinal disc issues.

In some cases, completely alleviating the need for surgery,

“Our truncated trial showed that intradiscal ozone infiltrations decreased the requirements for conventional surgery, resulting in decreased hospitalization durations and associated costs.”

Ozone therapy versus surgery for lumbar disc herniation: A randomized double-blind controlled trial

Faster wound healing

O3 therapy is a boon for rapidly healing injuries and damaged tissues.

Ozone appears to improve wound healing in many ways. This 2020 research speculates the following mechanisms:

  • Reduction of microbial infection
  • Debridement effect
  • Modulation of the inflammatory phase
  • Stimulation to angiogenesis
  • Biological and enzymatic reactions that favor the oxygen metabolism
  • Improving wound cicatrization

A study on diabetics found that it effectively treats ulcerous wounds.

Another found that ulcer duration, size, and pain levels decreased faster in the group treated with ozone.

Should you need it, ozone also shows great promise in accelerating the recovery from surgery,

“Studies conducted showed that including of ozone therapy into complex surgical treatment has positive effect on wound process.”

Ozone therapy effectiveness in patients with ulcerous lesions due to diabetes mellitus

The effect of ozone on wounds is best put here,

“…it was demonstrated that subcutaneous injections of ozone accelerate and ameliorate wound repairing process.”

Effects of subcutaneous injection of ozone during wound healing in rats

And it’s not just injections. Research has found that multiple routes of ozone application effectively improve wound healing.

Pain relief

Ozone is a natural analgesic, relieving pain with little to no side effects.

Researchers speculate that the anti-pain effects come from its anti-inflammatory properties.

Some pain-related conditions that O3 improves include:

And it appears to be an effective adjunctive treatment for other pain-related diseases.

Stem cell production, activation, & repair

Limited evidence hypothesizes that ozone therapy may increase your body’s release of stem cells.

Due to the mechanisms of action, some believe that it stimulates stem cell production and activation.

I didn’t find any published peer-reviewed research, so I’d take this potential benefit with a grain of salt.

Oxygenates cells

Ozone is one molecule different than oxygen. One of the primary benefits of this therapy is increased oxygen saturation of the body and brain.

This can have profound impacts on improving disease states (like tumors). Many of which thrive in low-oxygen, hypoxic environments.

Improved oxygenation also optimizes physical and cognitive performance.

Improves circulation

Ozone improves both circulation and microcirculation, delivering the blood where it belongs.

This occurs throughout the body and improves conditions characterized by poor circulation. Better circulation also leads to better nutrient delivery and greater performance. If you take nootropics, this equates to stronger effects.

Rejuvenates skin, hair, & nails

Skin health and ozone go hand-in-hand. Not only does it improve related diseases, but it also can improve the complexion and overall health of the skin.

This blog breaks down ten different ways O3 therapy leads to better skin.

Science supports the claims,

“It is a promising aesthetic therapeutic modality with efficient and safe results and high patient compliance and satisfaction.”

Efficacy of biostimulatory ozone therapy: Case report and literature review

The beauty improving benefits, however, are secondary to the others.

Gut dysbiosis

Ozone rebalanced the gut (and other) microbiomes by killing pathogens and helping the healthy species thrive.

I could only find one study done on this benefit, and it found ozone restored the gut to an optimal microbiota.

It should also help heal SIBO, SIFO, and other microbial overgrowths.

I will test this one myself.

Dental & oral health

Ozone has a rich history of use in dentistry. For all kinds of reasons.

Benefits present themselves after just a single dose.

Dental and oral uses of ozone include:

  • Sterilization
  • Wound healing
  • Anti-pain
  • Tooth whitening
  • Busting biofilms
  • Improving root canals

It’s nicely described in this paper,

Ozone therapy has thus far been utilized with wound healing, dental caries, oral lichen planus, gingivitis and periodontitis, halitosis, osteonecrosis of the jaw, post-surgical pain, plaque and biofilms, root canals, dentin hypersensitivity, temporomandibular joint disorders, and teeth whitening. The utility of ozone will undoubtedly grow if studies continue to show positive outcomes in an increasing number of dental conditions.

Clinical utility of ozone therapy in dental and oral medicine

I expect that standard oral treatments will eventually include ozone.

Boosts energy

Ozone increases energy in several ways. Directly improving glycolysis and leading to greater cellular energy (ATP). Also by increasing cellular oxygen efficiency.

Several trials have shown that ozone has excellent anti-fatigue effects. For this reason, it’s being considered an adjunct to standard cancer treatments.

Following a session, users often report a slight energy boost, especially in those with fatigue.

Elevates cognition and brainpower

Newer research suggests that ozone therapy may actually improve brain performance. A 2021 study found increased BDNF (dubbed ‘Miracle-Gro for the brain’), and the neurotransmitter of relaxation called GABA. Together, leading to increased sleep quality in humans.

Other research in rats shows restorations to brain function disrupted by chronic conditions.

Through the O3’s action on growth cytokines (VEGF, PDGF, EGF, FGF, IGF, TGF-β, BDNF, PI3K/AKT/mTOR signalling), O3 could improve the regeneration systems, angiogenesis, cellular proliferation, differentiation, tissue regeneration.

Molecular mechanisms in cognitive frailty: potential therapeutic targets for oxygen-ozone treatment

The relation between cognition and medical ozone is one of the latest frontiers.

Stimulates mitochondria

The mitochondria produce energy and regulate cellular metabolism.

There’s a strong link between dysfunctional mitochondria and a host of deadly health conditions.

Dr. Shallenberger’s theory of mitochondrial dysfunction blames decreasing oxygen utilization that naturally occurs with age.

By improving the body’s ability to utilize oxygen, we can preserve the health of mitochondria.

Weight loss

Can ozone therapy really increase weight loss?

Very limited evidence suggests it may.

One study split 30 adults aged 30-40 into two groups. Both followed low-calorie diets, and one also received ozone therapy. The ozone group lost more weight.

But it gets better…

This blog post compared traditional surgical liposuction against ozone. Check out the table for their detailed breakdown.

I’d surely consider ozone before undergoing a costly, minimally-effective, and side effect-prone procedure!

Criteria To Consider When Buying an Ozone Machine for Health

Once you have all the necessary equipment (which I’ll describe momentarily), you can easily start using ozone at home.

Depending on your chosen modality and use, most experts recommend a minimum of several weekly at-home sessions.

Here’s what to look for when buying an ozone machine for health purposes. Medical-grade generators should pass the following criteria.

Ozone-proof materials

Ozone gas is highly volatile and quickly oxidizes. The wrong materials will break down and enter your body when generating O3.

Simplicity

You shouldn’t struggle to use at-home machines. This may seem minor, but it can make the difference between regular use and the generator collecting dust in your closet.

Available protocols

The best kits include the ability to run multiple protocols. Such as insufflations, ozonating water, ozonating oil, ozone saunas, and more. Making the machine more practical and useful.

The more expensive machines output higher doses and can run the most protocols.

Features

Ozone machines generally have a limited number of features. Most importantly, some give you granular control over the dose via a knob on the generator. With others, you control it with your oxygen regulator.

Another common feature to look for is whether it has built-in ozone destruct, preventing you from accidentally breathing in lung-irritating “stray” ozone. These features come at a higher price.

Consistent dose

Cheap machines often eventually malfunction. Generating significantly different ozone concentrations from what’s stated in their technical specs.

Great value

Most companies in the space are priced similarly. You should expect to pay $600-$1600 for your at-home kit. Quality prevails.

Doing DIY is one cheap alternative to this biohack. But, again, you sacrifice safey plus you still need to learn how to actually make it yourself. The cheap stuff doesn’t work as well and fails quickly.

Generator vs kit

If you see super inexpensive products, it’s likely because you’re only buying the ozone generator itself.

Via that route, you’ll buy all the components separately (oxygen regulator, insufflation stethoscope, water bubbler, ozone bags, limb bags, syringes, catheters, oil bubblers, cups, nasal cannulas, silicone tubing, etc). That’s why I prefer the pre-made kits that come with these.

Proper tank

Oxygen tanks come in two forms, 870 medical oxygen tanks, and 540 commercial/industrial oxygen tanks. The main difference is that 870 requires a prescription. You’ll probably want a system compatible with 540 tanks.

Includes regulator

Ozone requires oxygen, and the generators themselves do not modify the flow. So you’ll need a regulator the bridge the two, and control the rate of flow. If the product doesn’t come with it, you’ll spend an extra $50 – $200.

Support

As an ozone beginner, having a team you can reach out to with questions is a lifesaver. Low-quality products rarely offer dedicated support and complementary education.

Warranty

You can sleuth out junk by checking the manufacturer’s warranty. Do they have confidence in their product’s durability? Parts sometimes wear out, and it’s nice to have the coverage of a lifetime warranty.

The Best At-Home Therapeutic Ozone Kits for Optimal Health

There’s no best ozone system. It depends on your intended uses and budget. However, I recommend kits to ensure you get the best deal on all the required components.

Here’s the process of buying your ideal kit:

  1. Determine your needs and intended uses (better to overestimate and not need to buy a stronger generator if your situation later warrants)
  2. Choose a kit that fulfills your requirements
  3. Buy and fill a 540 oxygen tank locally (search for Airgas or Praxair)
  4. Assemble and use

Let’s get started.

Best Overall: SimplyO3 Complete Kit

SimplyO3 Complete Ozone Kit Review

Materials: 100% ozone resistant

Ozone Generator Dose: 10 – 75 ug/mL

Unique: full spec transparency, great articles & Youtube resources

Warranty: lifetime

Money-Back Guarantee: 6-month, no questions asked

Price: $1,799

For the easiest operation without sacrificing on available ozone modalities, The SimplyO3 Complete Kit is perfect. You just hit the ‘On’ button, consult the gamma chart to determine your oxygen setting, and turn on the tank.

This kit can do most protocols, and anything missing you can easily add on via their shop or even upgrade to the Gold Kit.

SimplyO3 knows a thing or two about making great generators. Their “Ozonette” machine is the only consumer-available model medically certified in Europe (IIb CE certification).

The Stratus 3.0 generator has ozone gas destruction built-in to protect your lungs from lingering gas. Unlike the Promolife kits, SimplyO3 includes a regulator.

The main downside is that none of their kits include generators with higher dose options. Even then, the max output I found in other generators is 94 ug/mL, significantly less than Promolife.

The SimplyO3 website is super easy to navigate and packed full of useful educational content to optimize your ozone experience.

You can choose to buy one of their empty oxygen tanks, but I suggest buying that locally and getting it filled for $125 – $150.

The SimplyO3 Complete Kit has sold more than any other because it combines ease of use with affordability and treatment versatility.

Unique: quiet, contains extra filter to protect generator

Warranty: lifetime

Money-Back Guarantee: 30-day (15% restock fee)

Price: $1,194.90 – $1,590.90

If you want the kit for the most uses, look no further than the Promolife Basic Ozone Infsufflation package. This can handle most of the popular administration options while still leaving you room to upgrade to other forms later.

The range in price comes from the three different generator options. What really separates this one apart, is the ability to adjust your ozone output, even with their cheapest O3Elite Single generator.

If you need a dose higher than 70 ug/mL for an ozone sauna, to ozonate water faster, or to breathe ozone, you can upgrade to the O3Elite Dual. Or the precise dosing and built-in timer of the digital O3Arc Standard generator.

For most people, the basic O3Elite Single is fine.

I appreciate that they printed an ozone output chart directly onto the machine, making calculating your dose a cinch. It’s also praised for it’s silent operation and awesome portability.

Note that you’ll still need to buy an oxygen regulator and tank separately. I recommend adding this regulator to your order (your total will come out to $1,194.85) and getting a refillable oxygen tank in person. But if you want everything to ship to your doorstep, you can get their bundle here.

The Promolife Basic Ozone Insufflation Package is ideal for the power to value it provides.

Professional Kit: Promolife Comprehensive

promolife comprehensive o3arc sm

Overview

Protocols: insufflations (rectal, vaginal, ear, sinus), water, oil, saunas, breathing, cupping, humidifying full body

Materials: ozone-resistant PVC & Teflon

Ozone Generator Dose: 101 – 110ug/mL

Unique: all-in-one with adjustable dose

Warranty: lifetime

Money-Back Guarantee: 30-day (15% restock fee)

Price: $1,849.90 – $2,049.90

This kit includes everything you need for any ozone application. If basic insufflation isn’t enough, you’ve found your package.

With the Promolife Comprehensive, you choose between two generators. Either the O3Elite Dual or O3Arc Standard. The O3Elite Dual is analog, cheaper, and has a higher 110ug/mL dose.

Again, you’d choose the O3Arc Standard for the automatic timer and digital display which makes exact dosing easy. But this comes at a higher cost and a lower maximum dose of 101 ug/mL.

You still get the gamma ozone dosing chart and all the base features. The primary upgrades over the Basic Package are the more powerful default generator and the greater number of available ozone modalities.

You’ll still need to add on their oxygen regulator or purchase an O2Ready Prefilled Oxygen Tank.

Promolife Comprehensive is perfect for those looking for the most powerful ozone kit that also supports the widest number of modalities.

Best At-Home Medical Ozone Generators (Non-Kit)

With these generators, you’ll need to buy all the components separately. But the total price is considerably less than the kits.

At the very minimum, you’ll need one:

  • Generator
  • Regulator
  • Oxygen tank

Best Overall: SimplyO3 Stratus 3.0

simplyo3 stratus3 generator sm

Overview

Protocols: insufflations (rectal, vaginal, ear, sinus), water, oil, breathing

Materials: 100% ozone resistant

Ozone Generator Dose: 10 – 75 ug/mL

Unique:

Warranty: lifetime

Money-Back Guarantee: 6-month, no questions asked

Price: $907.49

The Stratus 3.0 is SimplyO3’s latest and greatest ozone generator. It’s included in the Complete Kit listed above (which retails for several hundred dollars more). It’s great for those that like extra features, getting extra required components bundled with their purchase, and prefer the simplicity of just having an on/off button.

The 3.0 is a major upgrade for SimplyO3’s generators. You now get more precision, with 11 different ozone dosages controllable via the oxygen regulator. Or dials or anything else to configure.

This one also comes with a custom-engineered oxygen regulator (often sold separately for an additional $50-$200).

It also comes with an important feature called ozone destruct. When making ozone water, oil, or using other protocols, your system will produce excess ozone which saturates the air around you. Inhaling ozone gas is painful and an irritant to the body. Ozone destruct safeguards you from inhaling it.

You can also choose to downgrade to the cheaper 2.0 if you don’t care about ozone destruct, want more precise dose control, or already have a regulator.

Be sure to capitalize on SimplyO3’s easy-to-digest resources, including YouTube videos, infographics, podcasts, and helpful information for new ozone users.

This is my feature-rich yet straightforward pick that’s reliable and risk-free for those unsure whether ozone therapy will work for them.

Best Value: Promolife O3 Elite Dual

promolife basic o3elite dual sm

Overview

Protocols: insufflations (rectal, vaginal, ear, sinus), water, oil, saunas, breathing, cupping, humidifying full body

Materials: ozone-resistant PVC & Teflon

Ozone Generator Dose: 110 ug/mL

Unique: two dials for granular dosage control

Warranty: lifetime

Money-Back Guarantee: 30-day (15% restock fee)

Price: $1,295.00

The O3 Elite Dual is the highest-end ozone generator available to consumers. It’s well-built, runs quiet, yet also can produce super high ozone levels at up to 110 gamma. If you’re planning to use ozone long-term and want the freedom to choose any modality at a later date, this is the generator you need.

This isn’t the best machine for beginners, since it’s more complicated and the high max ozone dose might not be worth the expense. However, with the extra power of the second dial (called ozone cell), it ozonates things like water and oil faster.

Note that this one does not contain a built-in destruct feature to prevent you from accidentally breathing it and irritating your lungs. For that, you’d either need their weaker yet more expensive digital O3 Arc generator or go with SimplyO3.

Promolife builds all their machines in the USA which is why they offer a lifetime warranty. I know several doctors that have switched from Longevity Resources to Promolife after encountering this exact generator.

Choose the O3 Elite Dual for the most powerful, premium, consumer-available generator capable of performing all ozone modalities, and faster.

Most Portable: Promolife O3Elite Mini

promolife o3elite mini sm

Overview

Protocols: insufflations (rectal, vaginal, ear, sinus), water

Materials: ozone-resistant PVC & Teflon

Ozone Generator Dose: 7 – 65 ug/mL

Unique: size and build quality for price

Warranty: lifetime

Money-Back Guarantee: 30-day (15% restock fee)

Price: $649.00

As the name suggests, the O3Elite Mini is the little brother of Promolife’s Single and Dual models. If you just want an affordable way to insufflate and ozonate water, the mini is what you need.

Don’t let the tiny size (7.5×5.5×3.5″) fool you. This generator was built to last and is quite suitable for travel. Similar to the other O3 Elite product, it’s almost silent and easy to configure. In fact, this may be the simplest generator available. You just connect your oxygen, connect what’s required for your modality, choose the dose, and hit ‘on’.

Like the SimplyO3 models, you must pick one of four settings on your oxygen regulator to control the ozone dosage.

Another thing I love about Promolife is that they offer free calibration every two years. The actual dose produced by ozone devices slowly loses accuracy over time so recalibration restores what you get compared to what you see.

If you get one of the kits that include the mini, you can pick up everything you need for insufflation or ozonating water, including prefilled oxygen tanks and regulators, for just north of $1,000.

This is the ideal affordable generator for those that plan to spot treat with ozone rather than setting up an ozone room.

Budget-Friendly: Dr.O Solutions Ozone Generator 85 Gamma

Dr.O Solutions Ozone Generator 85

Overview

Protocols: insufflations (rectal, vaginal, ear, sinus), water, oil, breathing

Materials: ozone-resistant silicone

Ozone Generator Dose: 85 ug/mL

Unique: cost

Warranty: 1-year

Money-Back Guarantee: 30-day (20% restocking fee)

Price: $299.00

This company is known in the ozone therapy space. I’ve previously seen their YouTube videos, and heard a few experts mention them. I personally don’t know much about them. If you’re looking for the absolute cheapest generator without turning to low-quality Amazon products, look into Dr.O Solutions.

Dr. O Solutions Ozone Generator claims to put out 85 gamma, making it one of the more powerful machines. There’s no ozone dosage dial, so you’ll control it via your oxygen regulator. Their gamma chart shows 7 different possible dose options.

You’ll need to buy an oxygen regulator, tank, and baby components separately. Still, it looks like a good deal.

From my research, I noticed that some users complain that their orders either never arrived or took a long time. Indeed, I reached out to their Support team to chat and haven’t heard back.

Between the one-year warranty, slow support, and 20 percent restocking fee, I would only try this machine if you’re on a tight budget.

The Best Ozone Creams, Supplements & Other Products

Personally, I like ozone kits and generators because they give you the most flexibility and, over time, become the cheapest.

But if you don’t want the huge upfront investment or the hassle of building an “ozone lab”, you can buy pre-ozonated product.

These vary tremendously in quality, and the many options probably warrant a separate post. I don’t have experience with these, and I only know of one great company.

Biocharged Resistor

Scientist Ian Mitchell is somewhat of a legend in the biohacking industry. He pioneers products and sets the bar for quality. Ian first made the longevity compound C60 available to consumers, and now is formulating novel nootropics on his sister site Wizard Sciences.

Resistor is the Biocharged ozonated oil product. It contains Ozonated Organic Sunflower Oil which undergoes tree-pass ozonation, and then a proprietary plasma charging (described on their website) which further boosts the ozonides. Finally, the ozone is stabilized and sent to third-party labs for safety and quality testing.

I personally have not used it but have heard great things from three friends.

Ozone Therapy Machines I Do Not Recommend

For different reasons, certain ozonation devices and kits didn’t make my list.

Of the many reasons, here are the top:

  • Price — way overpriced for what you get
  • Quality — system has serious design flaws
  • Suspicious — company makes unfounded claims or appears a scam
  • Unavailable — product was either discontinued or won’t ship to the USA

Let’s get started.

Medical Ozone Generator MEDOZONS-BM

This Russian ozone generator looked promising. It’s digital, approved by the Russian Federal Service for “Surveillance in Healthcare”, and also certified in Austria. I have several issues with it. First, I simply could not get a price. I had to “talk to a specialist” first. To do that, I had to exchange my name, email, and phone number. Except the website displayed an error when I tried to enter my +1 USA country code.

Also, the website makes no mention of the material quality (whether it’s ozone-resistant), nothing about the gamma, no anything about the inner workings of the machine. It’s fair to assume that the quote I’d get would be expensive, so I would go with a more transparent company.

Creatrix Ozonated Water Generators

These systems are built to ozonate water. While it’ll accomplish that faster than most of the generators on this list, it’s ridiculously expensive ($5,000+), big and bulky at 18-pounds (though they claim it’s portable), only has a 1-year warranty, and again doesn’t list anything about the materials that contact ozone. Not worth the price.

Ozone Machines on Amazon & Alibaba

When it comes to alternative health, Amazon is the Wild West. Even with something as simple as supplements, you have no quality assurance. Heck, many sellers on Amazon get away with selling completely counterfeit products! Their ozone generators are probably even worse. I saw several others recommended that have since been taken down (a sign that they did something seriously wrong).

Both Amazon and Alibaba sell cheap Chinese ozone generators and kits. You can’t trust the stated ozone dose, and most do not actually use the claimed ozone-resistant materials. When they eventually break, you’ll have no guarantee or warranty for recourse. Money down the drain. Instead, choose one of the budget-friendly options above.

Longevity Solutions EXT120

As much as I dislike the antiquated look, Longevity Solutions’ EXT120 model proved itself effective over many decades. Customers report that even after 25 years of use, their machines run strong. Those who can stomach the highest price generator on this list choose it because it is digital, extremely powerful, precise, widely used in clinics, and packed with unique features.

The first thing that caught my eye about the EXT120 is that it has the highest max dose of any generator. With 90 settings ranging between micro-ozone of 0.1 – 120 gamma. Enabling the widest variety of treatments.

The EXT120, however, is best known for its all-glass ozone chamber. Double-layered quartz glass shields the ozone gas from degradation by the electrode. Resulting in pure, intact, contaminant-free ozone. Despite the glass, the machine is still robust and well-built.

Measuring 11 x 6 x 4.5″, it also features an EMF shield to protect you from the electrosmog produced by generators. They also include their own “Turbo Ozone Destruct Unit” designed to break down off-gassed ozone.

This used to be one of the great professional options. Sadly, in 2023, Longevity Solutions ozone therapy went out of business.

Building Your At-Home Ozone Lab

Ozone is one of the most promising therapies for a wide range of both ailments and also performance.

Browse the internet, read the product reviews, or talk to naturopaths and you’ll hear hundreds of miracle-like success stories.

After all my research, I’m getting a kit for my own preventative use. It’s one of the Swiss Army Knives of alternative medicine.

It does have downsides. Such as:

  • Instability of O3 gas (and thus inability to store)
  • Units themselves are not cheap
  • Little standardization in medical treatment protocols
  • Virtually no financial support for thorough clinical trials

That’s one of the primary issues with natural health technologies. Minimal profit has researchers focused instead on patentable molecules and modalities.

But today more than ever, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better therapy to keep you healthy and thriving amid global chaos. Ozone has many other uses that I didn’t even touch on in this article.

So if you’re looking to get started, I recommend getting a kit. Or if you want just the bare minimum, you can get a generator, regulator, oxygen tanks, and materials for your preferred treatment.

  1. Hi Nick, quick question. I see you say ozone therapy, how does that compare to EWOT(exercise with ozone therapy)? You didn’t compare this method as I see it used in this way to get oxygen throughout the body quickly. They use the oxygen concentrator and the big bag with a mask. They don’t use the ozone generators.

    • Hey Kevin! As far as I know, EWOT is Exercise with Oxygen Therapy. You wouldn’t want (nor could you) train while inhaling ozone.

      • Thanks for that. So does EWOT produce the same results as ozone therapy would? What is your protocol when you use this on a daily or weekly schedule and for how long? I read that you use Brown’s gas daily while working for 30-60min.

        • Hey Kevin,

Responded to you via email about this.

Basically, I don’t use ozone therapy daily. I don’t have any chronic conditions, so I just use it a few times per week. Usually in the morning.

I do use brown gas via the AquaCure AC50 almost every day. When I combine the two, I make sure to wait an hour or two after ozone before using BG.

That’s just an insurance policy I have to ensure I get the maximum benefits of each.

          Hope that helps!

  2. Simply03 is no longer offering video instruction / support for their products. In fact, all related videos have been removed from YouTube. I contacted them and they advised that they are restructuring, and the support materials are not presently available.

    • Hey John, thanks for letting us know! I think this is related to the new YouTube policies which essentially ban the discussion of topics like Ozone Therapy for human health, unfortunately. I’d imagine those materials will be reposted elsewhere.

  3. Greetings!
I’m just curious if you have an opinion about the Hummingbird by o3vets?
This was originally recommended by my vet although said to be fine in human use.
    Thank you,

    • Hello Debi!

Just checked it out briefly. Looks like a decent system, though it’s hard to say with such limited product details available on their website. I also didn’t see many O3Vets Hummingbird reviews on the internet. If you go with them, make sure you get everything you need for your desired ozone protocols!

  5. HI Nick, thank you for the article. I am very, very new to this kind of home ozone but have been getting IV ozone therapy (MAH) for my husband with Atypical Parkinson’s. He has had about 28 MAH with chelation treatments and its the ozone that is making a huge difference – after the ozone, for the next 24, sometimes 48 hours, he walks normal, is more interactive, more alert and just feels better. I have no idea how to use one of these units, but I will learn fast. I super appreciate your article and was looking into the Longevity company, but their website says they have closed their business. With that in mind, I am thinking I may need the most powerful (?) unit since we see these great results with the IV therapy. I am willing to look at very good to the best units – my husbands health is the priority. So, I’m sure I’ve already taken too much of your valuable time, but what would you recommend? Thank you so much!

    • Hey Kat!

Super late here, sorry about that. Glad to hear that about your husband! Are you still in the market for a machine? Are you trained in administering IVs? Those are definitely more advanced than the other protocols, and as you mentioned, require special higher-power systems.

      Nick
