Best Resveratrol Supplement Guide & Review
Best Resveratrol Supplement Guide & Review

Imagine getting the benefits of caloric restriction—or even fasting—in a small pill.

It’d be a simple way to extend your healthspan, without deprivation.

Resveratrol became one of the first promising nutraceuticals to slow aging. Research showed wide-ranging benefits:

  • Protecting the cardiovascular system
  • Quelling oxidation and inflammation
  • Enhancing blood flow and cognition
  • Activating longevity pathways

Scientists lost interest due to one glaring problem…

Resveratrol is not bioavailable. Your body breaks down and excretes the molecule before does much good.

Breakthrough supplement delivery technology has mitigated this issue.

Perhaps reigniting hope for resveratrol as a miracle supplement.

In today’s post, we’ll cover the most powerful and effective resveratrol supplements on the market.

Top Resveratrol Products of 2025

Best Overall: Ultra Health ResveraGEN
Best Anti-Aging: Ultra Health Resvera-M
Best All-In-One: Life Extension Optimized Resveratrol
Best Powder: Prohealth Micronized Trans-Resveratrol Powder

How to Make Resveratrol More Effective

Resveratrol seemed poised to revolutionize humanity and extend lifespan.

It’s regularly discussed among experts like:

  • Joe Rogans’ guests
  • David Sinclair
  • Dr. Axe
  • Rhonda Patrick

Emerging research started hinting that the body struggled to actually assimilate and use resveratrol. Some insisted that it just led to expensive pee. Others compensate for the poor absorption by using a larger dose.

Savvy manufacturers began using several strategies to get more out of resveratrol:

  • Adding quercetin: a different but synergistic ingredient
  • Topical delivery: transdermal application to the skin
  • Liposomal encapsulation: binding the powder to tiny nano-fat particles

Quercetin works by competing with resveratrol for sulphation. This competition keeps it active in the body for longer.

Resveratrol is well absorbed through the skin and has long-lasting skin and face health benefits. Multiple studies show that this transdermal delivery works better than standard oral intake to slow down metabolism and excretion.

Liposomal encapsulation is a new supplement technology called that vastly increases absorption by allowing the body to easily identify and assimilate the nutrients. 2019 research found liposomal delivery to be a powerful option.

With the necessary background on absorption-enhancing technologies, we’ll compare the supplements.

Resveratrol Warning

Resveratrol supplement dangers

I take dozens of supplements every day. In recent years, I’ve drastically cut down. This article explains the hidden dangers of supplements.

Lab testing regularly finds major issues with most supplements listed on marketplaces like Amazon. Products contain contaminants like heavy metals, other random ingredients, and even banned substances. Other times the product listed is a completely fraudulent replica; the company on the label never created the supplement.

Who knows what’s inside?

With resveratrol, manufacturers cut corners by using cheap precursors. Instead of the optimal grape skin, they use inflammatory peanut skin to save costs. Or they skimp and include the unabsorbable “cis” form.

The Top Resveratrol Products of 2023

Resveratrol is cheap to make and easy to find since ample research has investigated its uses among the healthy.

High-quality resveratrol products should be:

  • Brownish in color since only synthetic resveratrol is white
  • Made from grape skins

If you’re wondering where to buy resveratrol, you can use this list of the best brands and supplements to guide your research.

Best Combo: Life Extension Optimized Resveratrol

lifeextension optimized resveratrol img

Overview

Dose: 250mg trans-resveratrol

Other ingredient doses: 150mg quercetin, 85mg fruit polyphenol extracts, 10mg fisetin

Serving size: 1 capsule

Servings: 90

Manufactured in: USA

Features: Great value

Life Extension is one of the larger supplement manufacturers, and for good reason. They produce a huge catalog of quality products at competitive prices. LEF Optimized Resveratrol is made from the extracts of red grapes and wild blueberries. They’ve boosted the formula with a synergistic complex of powerful anti-aging ingredients. Each capsule contains trans-pterostilbene, quercetin, and fisetin.

Unfortunately, the bottle lists several unnecessary ingredients such as maltodextrin, silica, and vegetable stearate. Note that the addition of quercetin gives the capsules a yellow tinge. It does not indicate an old or inferior product.

LES Optimized Resveratrol is a good balance between quality and price, for those looking for an all-in-one longevity supplement.

MAAC10 99% Pure Trans Resveratrol

maac10 resveratrol img

Overview

Dose: 500mg trans-resveratrol

Other ingredient doses: 10mg Bioperine

Serving size: 2 capsules

Servings: 30

Manufactured in: USA

Features: Absorption

I discovered MAAC10 when researching a new anti-aging ingredient called NMN. From talking to manufacturers, I learned that MAAC10 buys its raw ingredients from some of them. Getting you good 99% pure trans-resveratrol at a reasonable price.

You’ll notice that each serving contains a full 500mg of trans-resveratrol and an ingredient called Bioperine to enhance absorption. They claim that the combination of Bioperine with micron-sized particles can increase bioavailability by 4-fold.

Note that the serving size is larger, requiring two capsules for the 500mg dose.

If you tolerate black pepper extract (Bioperine), MAAC10 resveratrol is a good value.

Pure Encapsulations Resveratrol

pureencapsulations resveratrol

Overview

Dose: 40mg trans-resveratrol

Serving size: 1 capsule

Servings: 120

Manufactured in: USA

Features: Dosage control

Pure Encapsulations make true pharmaceutical-grade supplements. It’s one of few brands that doctors and health professionals rely on for maximum purity. None of their products contains fillers, binders, or excipients. As you’d expect, Pure Encapsulations capsules are non-GMO, certified gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan.

At just 40mg, the dose of each capsule is weak. Giving you finer dosage control and the ability to tweak your resveratrol intake. This was the brand Dr. Rhonda Patrick recommended in her older interviews. Since Nestle bought Pure Encapsulation, quality seems to have declined some.

I would only really consider this product if you have sensitivities or react poorly to the other products.

Best Powder: Trans-Resveratrol Powder Renue™

renue trans resveratrol powder pure

Overview

Dose: 500mg resveratrol

Serving size: 1 scoop

Servings: 200

Manufactured in: USA

Features: Great powder option

Trans-Resveratrol provides a powerhouse of antioxidant & anti-inflammatory benefits in this crystalline powder form.  Trans-Resveratrol has shown great promise in clinical studies and is part of a group of compounds called polyphenols, which act as antioxidants to protect the body against age-related conditions.

High potency crystalline PURE Trans-Resveratrol™ provides concentrated levels of Trans-Resveratrol (99% pure) from the root of the Japanese Knotweed (Polygonum Cuspidatum).  Trans-Resveratrol is a unique antioxidant with the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Also Good: Genex Resveratrol Powder

genex resveratrol powder img

Overview

Dose: 1000mg trans-resveratrol

Serving size: 4 scoops

Servings: 30

Manufactured in: USA

Features: Pure trans-resveratrol powder

At first glance, Genex resveratrol seems like the highest dose option. But with just 30 servings in each container, the 1000mg dose becomes less attractive. If you standardize the product to a two-scoop serving, it comes out to 60 servings of 500mg.

Genex is one of the only respected vendors that sell a true 99 percent trans-resveratrol powder. They micronized it for better blendability and absorption. Manufacturing occurs in a US-based, GMP and NSF-registered facility. If you have big fingers, you’ll want to consider another supplement. The scooper is tiny and easy to spill powder.

Cheapest: Double Wood Resveratrol

doublewood resveratrol img

Overview

Dose: 500mg resveratrol

Serving size: 2 capsules

Servings: 30

Manufactured in: USA

Features: Budget-friendly

Double Wood makes some of the least expensive supplements on the market. If you can overlook the dated bottle packaging, this is a great value. Each capsule contains 50 percent of the optimal trans-resveratrol form. The formula does not include any other ingredients nor technologies to enhance bioavailability. Just resveratrol and rice flour as a filler.

Double Wood claims to make this in the USA (though I have my doubts given the cost of manufacturing). These veggie capsules are gluten-free, non-GMO, and vegan-safe.

See for yourself why nearly 500 satisfied Amazon customers rate this a 4.75-star product. For the cheapest no-frills resveratrol, try Double Wood.

Resveratrol Background

resveratrol in food

If you’re like me, you want to know how something works before taking it.

This guide to resveratrol will help you best understand the benefits, side effects, science, and how to use it.

What is it?

Resveratrol is a polyphenol naturally occurring in 70+ foods as a defense against toxins, predators, and microbes (bacteria, fungi, and viruses). It’s generally contained in the skin, seeds, or protective coatings of the organism.

Foods that contain resveratrol include:

  • Grapes (highest concentration)
  • Red wine
  • Blueberries
  • Peanuts

Though the minuscule dose in foods doesn’t compare to supplementation.

In humans, it acts as an antioxidant to protect the body against biological damage which would otherwise put you at higher risk for disease.

Resveratrol mimics the same molecular mechanisms and benefits of caloric restriction. In part, by activating a group of longevity genes called sirtuins. Sirtuins, an enzyme called SIRT1 in particular, control many different pathways involved in the aging process.

Not all resveratrol is the same.

Resveratrol vs Trans-Resveratrol

You’ll notice that some supplements differentiate between resveratrol and trans-resveratrol. Though the same molecule, the two have different molecular arrangements (called isomers).

Resveratrol comes in two isomers:

  • Cis
  • Trans

Trans-resveratrol is the superior choice, backed by more research and considered the more beneficial and absorbable of the two.

High-quality supplements generally use 50-100 percent trans-resveratrol.Clinical research funded by the keenly interested pharmaceutical industry has mostly focused on animal trials since human testing costs considerably more. Speculation by researchers and new studies suggest some of the highly touted benefits may carry over to humans if we overcome the one key obstacle.

Benefits of Quality Trans-Resveratrol

“At molecular level it targets sirtuin, adenosine monophosphate kinase, nuclear Factor-κB, inflammatory cytokines, anti-oxidant enzymes along with cellular processes such as angiogenesis, apoptosis, mitochondrial biogenesis, gluconeogenesis and lipid metabolism.”

Resveratrol: from enhanced biosynthesis and bioavailability to multitargeting chronic diseases

We already know some of the mechanisms, pathways, and biological effects of this molecule. Though not studied exclusively in the context of resveratrol, many of these have wide-sweeping benefits.

Resveratrol advocates use it for:

  • Hair growth and preventing hair loss
  • Skin health
  • Stimulating weight loss
  • Pet health
  • Anti-aging and longevity
  • Anti-microbial
  • Anti-tumor
  • Heart protection
  • Brain protection

The clinical trials that showed less promise in humans suffered from poor bioavailability. It’s quite possible that liposomal and other delivery technologies mentioned previously completely mitigate this sole issue preventing resveratrol from widespread use.

Immune Health

Immune. Resveratrol powerfully modulates the immune system and supports overall immunity. It does so by:

A properly functioning immune system slows the speed of aging.

Lifespan (and Healthspan) Extension

Resveratrol has several mechanisms which confer life-enhancement to its consumers.

These include:

Beauty and Appearance

Resveratrol was once the darling of the skincare industry. Many high-end beauty products still include it.

Applied topically, it penetrates the skin barrier and increases type III collagen.

Resveratrol’s beauty benefits:

Metabolic Health & Optimal Hormone Levels

Perhaps, most notably, resveratrol impacts the metabolism and endocrine systems.

Research supports resveratrol for:

New research continues to come out around the clock. But there’s an important distinction regarding the form of resveratrol.

Resveratrol Compared to Other Longevity Supplements

Alternatives to Resveratrol Supplements for Longevity: Quercetin & Astaxanthin

Resveratrol vs Astaxanthin

Resveratrol and astaxanthin are two popular antioxidants with different use cases and properties. Astaxanthin is a category of chemical called carotenoids. It is a red pigment that gives salmon, krill, and shrimps their color. Astaxanthin notably acts as protection against UV light and modulates the immune system. It’s also used for sports performance, promoting skin health, and reducing exercise-induced muscle soreness. Learn more about why astaxanthin made my list of the best longevity and anti-aging supplements of the future.

Resveratrol vs Quercetin

Resveratrol and quercetin are two powerful antioxidant polyphenols that work synergistically together for greater absorption and effects. Like resveratrol, quercetin is thought to promote cerebrovascular and cardiovascular health and slow the progression of neurodegenerative diseases. It also works best when encapsulated in liposomes. Many modern resveratrol formulations now include quercetin.

Resveratrol Questions & Answers

What is the best resveratrol dose?

The best dose of resveratrol depends on the desired health benefits and form of the product. Typical doses range between 100mg and 2000mg taken every day. For longevity and lifespan extension, the generally recommended resveratrol dose is 250mg – 400mg.

When should I take resveratrol?

Resveratrol is best taken twice per day, with meals low in fat. Because it is an antioxidant, it’s ideally taken away from bouts of intense exercise.

What are the side effects of resveratrol?

Several studies have investigated the safety of resveratrol and found it well tolerated by the health.

Large resveratrol doses thin the blood and can interfere with medications like blood thinners and NSAIDs by increasing the risk of bleeding.

Like other antioxidants, when taken too close to exercise, it may blunt adaptation (gains) to exercise.

Although rare, some users report additional side effects of resveratrol: diarrhea, headaches, insomnia, and blood pressure changes. Check with your doctor before taking resveratrol.

Supplementing Resveratrol Still Worth It?

Resveratrol gets full credit for igniting the longevity industry and securing billions of dollars in funding.

Resveratrol sat poised to:

  • Increased lifespan
  • Protect the body’s organs and notably the brain
  • Enhance athletic performance, and accelerate both weight loss and muscle building
  • Normalize hormones
  • Activate longevity pathways
  • Optimize the immune system
  • Improve skin health, complexion, and overall beauty

So what happened?

Much of the hype shriveled up when scientists discovered that the body excretes the vast majority of oral resveratrol supplements. Before the molecule could exert its powerful effects.

Over the last few years, rapid advancements in supplement technology have overcome this speed bump. Using techniques like:

  • Topical and other methods of delivery
  • Liposomal encapsulations
  • Synergistic combinations with other molecules

Certain genes and lifestyle practices (I use a powerful tool called SelfDecode to decode my genetics) can dramatically increase your need for supplementation:

Knowing your underlying biological needs can help you decide whether spending hundreds on resveratrol products will be worth it.

Today’s top resveratrol products reflect these recent advancements.

Some researchers have dubbed this resveratrol’s “second wave”.

Have you tried any of the new formulations? What was your experience? Let us know in the comments below.

  1. I also read that Ptero is also superior to resveratrol due to its half life in the body but I have yet to find where to purchase it, can you enlighten me?
    Thanks

    • Hi Faye! Yes, a lot of people prefer and recommend Ptero over Resveratrol. Dr. Sandra Kaufmann’s work explains why it’s better for most people. I personally think it’s the superior choice.
