Top 9 NAD+ Supplements 2026: Reviews & Comparisons (Is NAD3 Best?)

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell that drives energy production, DNA repair, and cellular communication. Your body makes less of it every decade. By age 50, levels can drop 50% or more.

I’ve spent over 3 years testing NAD+ supplements, cycling through NMN, NR, and the newer multi-ingredient formulas. The difference between the best and worst products is enormous.

The Best NAD+ Supplements of 2026

Overall: Qualia NAD+

Formula: NAD Support+

Absorption: NAD Max Ultra

Budget: AEON NAD+ Liposomal Anti-Aging Supplement Complex

By the end of this post, you’ll know exactly why I quit the famous precursors and switched to an all-in-one NAD+ supplement. I’ll also help you pick the right product for you.

🧬NAD+ supplements market is growing 500% with a shift toward comprehensive formulas over single precursors like NMN or NR. The best products combine multiple precursors and synergistic ingredients for all-in-one NAD+ optimization.

🧬I’ve personally tested and reviewed 6 of the 9 NAD+ supplements featured here. The variance in efficacy, pricing, and formula quality is dramatic.

🧬Cost-per-serving analysis reveals that NAD3, multi-ingredient, and liposomal formulas often provide better value despite higher upfront cost.

🧬A 2025 study called “NAD World 3.0” found that NMN has a unique transporter (Slc12a8), likely making it the most effective individual oral precursor. NAD3, NR, and NAD+ supplements cannot use that transporter to enter cells.

🧬For longevity use cases, NAD+ supplements should combine precursors with sirtuin activators like resveratrol or pterostilbene for the strongest benefits. Some brands add parsley extract (apigenin) to inhibit CD38 and keep NAD+ levels high through a different pathway.

Why Use a Complete NAD+ Formula Instead of Pure NMN or NR?

NAD+, Energy & Longevity: How to Restore Cellular Power Naturally | Dr. Dan Pardi @Qualia Life
Qualia Life’s Dr. Dan Pardi joins the show to share his insights on NAD & cellular energy

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD+) is a metabolic co-enzyme involved in cellular structure, repair (cell and DNA), and energy generation (mitochondrial function). The energy production process shouldn’t occur without it.

This molecule is responsible for activating and deactivating certain genes. It’s also key to maintaining optimal brain function and neurotransmitter balance.

We have three goals to increase NAD+:

  • Increase its production
  • Decrease its breakdown
  • Activate downstream longevity pathways

A 2023 systematic review in Biomedicines compiled the clinical evidence on NAD+ precursor supplements, finding promising but mixed results across human trials.

CompoundPathwayNAD+ EffectFeaturesSource
NRSalvage (NRK)2x in muscleFast, well-studiedSupplements
NMNSalvage (NRK via NR)2x in muscleOral form debated, fastSupplements
NiacinPreiss-Handler (NAPRT)~50% increaseFlushing, lipid effectsSupplement / foods
TrigonellinePreiss-Handler~50% multi-tissueStable, no flushingCoffee / fenugreek
NAD3Multiple pathwaysIncreases NAD+/NADH ratioNiacinamide + theacrine + wasabi, non-flushingSupplements

That’s how some of the properties and benefits compare.

The best NAD+ supplement overall is Qualia NAD+ because it combines triple NAD support with 70+ trace minerals and is backed by Neurohacker’s own clinical data showing 50-150% NAD+ increases.

The best NAD+ supplement for absorption is NAD Max Ultra because its liposomal delivery rivals the potency of IV therapy, plus it includes methylene blue for cognitive enhancement.

The best budget NAD+ supplement is AEON NAD+ Liposomal because at $59 per bottle, you get 11 active longevity ingredients including both NMN and NR in a liposomal form.

The best NAD3 supplement is Biostack NAD Regen because it pairs the patented NAD3 compound with clinically dosed resveratrol and spermidine.

The best NAD+ supplement for brain health is NeuroNAD Nasal Mist because nasal delivery bypasses the blood-brain barrier for targeted neurological support.

Despite that early promise, standalone NMN and NR precursors have several concerning findings in the research:

  1. Unknown long-term safety: NMN and NR so far appear safe. A recent November 2023 compilation of the research urged caution, “… a concern remains regarding the safety and physiological effects of NMN supplementation in the human population” [R]. Cell culture research often doesn’t translate to humans.
  2. Sirtuin inactivity: Increasing NAD+ alone has some therapeutic benefits. The true power, however, comes from also activating a family of longevity proteins called sirtuins. Precursors alone don’t activate sirtuins nearly as powerfully as a holistic complex.
  3. Instability. Both NMN and NR notoriously degrade quickly when exposed to real-life environments (light, heat, moisture). By the time it arrives at your door, you may be consuming entirely different substances like NAM, nicotinic acid, NMNAT, NADP, & NAR.
  4. Insulin resistance: Large doses of nicotinamide riboside (NR) have been shown to generate body fat dysfunction and heightened insulin resistance in mice [R]
  5. Metabolic dysfunction: NR, the best-studied precursor, can cause adverse effects like increased LDL cholesterol levels, and worse fatty liver [R, R]
  6. Zombie cells: Prolonged high doses of vitamin B3 compounds, including NMN and NR, can worsen the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) generated by senescent cells in aged tissues [R]

That last one is especially important. We know that senescent cell accumulation is one of the twelve currently recognized hallmarks of aging.

If your body is already inflamed, adding high-dose precursors will only worsen the senescent “zombie” cell burden and accelerate the aging process. That’s why experts always recommend using a top senescent supplement stack first.

Then, if you want to focus on cellular health & energy, choose from the best mitochondrial supplements.

Over the last few years, I’ve moved more towards using a complete, well-formulated NAD+ stack.

These often address all three ways to increase its levels, without some of the side effects.

One such example is a patented NMN alternative ingredient called NAD3. Other companies stack lower dosages of multiple different precursors together.

These approaches offer greater targeted cellular health support for things like energy metabolism, DNA repair, inflammation, stress resilience, and more.

The Best Holistic NAD+ Support Supplements (Better Than Precursors)

I switched away from using NMN most days to the following products.

They are all great, with unique advantages and disadvantages.

I will review, compare, and contrast each of them to help you make the best decision for your goals and lifestyle.

Healthgevity is dedicated to shaping a future where aging can be slowed, halted, or even reversed.

With a strong focus on longevity and lifespan optimization, the company works with top medical and scientific professionals to bring the latest research into high-quality, evidence-based supplements.

One such product is NAD Support+.

Healthgevity’s NAD Support+ combines 4 key compounds that work synergistically to support NAD+ metabolism, protect cells, and promote longevity:

  • Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) directly replenishes NAD+ – 1,000mg
  • Trimethylglycine (TMG, as betaine anhydrous) supports efficient conversion of NMN into NAD+ – 500mg
  • Pterostilbene protects NAD+ from oxidative stress & activates sirtuins – 50mg
  • Apigenin prevents NAD+ depletion by inhibiting CD38 – 50mg

These actions result in steady energy levels, improved post-exercise recovery, and sustained focus throughout the day.

Besides the synergistic effects of these 4 ingredients in targeting NAD+ production, each ingredient offers additional powerful benefits such as:

  • Improved markers of liver & cardiovascular health
  • Enhanced physical performance & endurance
  • Cognitive resilience

While individual results may vary, the formula is backed by science and uses well-researched dosages.

NAD Support+ is reasonably priced at $1.33 per serving of 2 capsules. There’s a monthly subscription option, although it’s priced the same as a one-time purchase.

NAD Support+ is a solid, science-based NAD+ supplement that stands out for combining NMN with supporting compounds that address NAD+ synthesis, conservation, and utilization.

I first came across the brand Perpetua Life several years ago when multiple Outliyrs commented on my ultimate guide to NMN supplement article. I looked into the company and was immediately skeptical. They offered larger doses of NMN plus other ingredients for less than most vendors sold a (low dosage) NMN product.

I exchanged dozens of emails with the Founder, and he even shared some private info with me. Supplement brands rarely divulge any information, and this man shared it all. AEON is the real deal and I’ve since stocked up on their flagship product: Liposomal Anti Aging Supplement Complex with Nicotinamide DUO.

The formula itself has gone through multiple iterations. A two-capsule serving of the AEON complex currently contains:

  • Nicotinamide DUO™ (as 400mg NMN + 100mg NR)
  • Quercetin – 250mg
  • Trans-Resveratrol – 150mg
  • L-Theanine – 100mg
  • Fisetin – 100mg
  • Astragalus – 100mg
  • TMG – 85mg
  • Spermidine – 10mg
  • Piperine – 10mg
  • Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) – 100mg

This checks multiple boxes. You get two precursors, NR and NMN. Multiple different sirtuin-activating polyphenols, senescent-cell clearing spermidine, and a whole lot more.

Dr. Morgan chose the dosage of each ingredient so that you can easily titrate how many capsules you take to match your needs and goals. So I could safely take three capsules (1.5 servings), and you could take one (half serving) and still enjoy benefits from each of the 11 substances in the product.

This company has great customer service and works hard to make things right. You can save 20% by subscribing, and an extra 10% on top of that by using my code.

In my experience, this is the best overall all-in-one anti-aging supplement complex.

Mitozen is one of those great kept secrets of the supplement world. Founded by Dr. John Lieurance, this company offers many unique formulas you won’t find anywhere else on the internet. He’s one of the world’s top cellular medicine docs and has extensive knowledge of advanced supplements formulation. I personally have a bunch of Mitozen products and use them often.

NAD Max Ultra is no exception. Every serving contains:

  • Liposomal NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) – 250mg
  • Liposomal NR (Nicotinamide Riboside) – 125mg
  • Methylene Blue
  • Fisetin
  • Lutein
  • Quercetin
  • Resveratrol
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Alpha Pinene
  • Beta Pinene
  • Delta 3 Carene
  • Alpha Phellandrene
  • Trimethyl Glycine (TMG)
  • SRT Polysaccharide Complex

The precursors are highly bioavailability, maximumally absorbed thanks to their proprietary Nano Lipospheric Technology. Giving you greater benefits for longer, with less dosage required. The oral equivalent rivaling the potency of NAD+ IV therapy. Plus, the NAD+ molecule itself only works as a supplement when in its liposomal form.

Then you have the complex of plant-based polyphenols and natural terpenes. These synergize with the precursors to powerfully activate sirtuins, clear out harmful senescent cells, and further enhance the effects.

NAD Max Ultra is also the only product in this category that also includes a great brain-enhancing (and energizing without stimulating) substance called methylene blue. Check out my ultimate guide to methylene blue supplements to learn more about this fascinating substance.

I usually don’t recommend supplements with proprietary blends/dosages, but the Mitozen lines are a beloved exception.

This one is a berry-flavored liquid, lightly sweetened with stevia.

Choose this one for the highest-absorbing, most thorough, liposomal and best liquid NAD+ supplement.

Years ago, Nuchido was among the first companies to sell an NMN-free and NR-free NAD+ boosting supplement. You’d often hear their Lead Scientist, Dr Nichola Conlon, appear on podcasts explaining the advantages over the more common precursors.

Nuchido’s TIME+ contains a host of natural and highly beneficial ingredients. It has substances that target dysfunctional senolytic cells, improve NAD+ recycling, and enhance the effects of the precursor used.

The bioactive ingredients within Nuchido TIME+ include:

  • Zinc – 5mg
  • Nicotinamide – 250mg
  • Vitamin C – 10mg
  • ALA – 300mg
  • Green Tea Leaf Extract (EGCG)
  • Parsley Leaf
  • Rutin
  • Black Pepper Extract

I don’t love that they hide the dosage of most things behind proprietary blends. Other than that. it contains additives and fillers under the “other ingredients”.

TIME+, however, is also one of the only products in this list that underwent a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled crossover clinical trial [R].

It’s a bit more expensive than some of the other options, with the serving price ranging from $1.83 up to $2.17, depending on quantity and subscription.

Nuchido TIME+ is ideal if you demand a product backed by a clinical trial and that lacks NR & NMN.

Mitozen, the same company I mentioned before, is best known for carrying products with all kinds of unique delivery mechanisms. As implied by the name, NeuroNAD Nasal Mist is a spray inhaled via the nasal passageway.

Nasal sprays have the unique ability to bypass the blood-brain barrier. Where it most beneficially impacts brain energetics and chemicals (neurotransmitters).

Due to the vastly higher potency than oral substances, near-instant effects, and targeted effects, medications often use this route of administration.

Few supplement companies offer these intra-nasal products, mostly because they’re afraid of one day potentially getting classified as a “drug”. Mitozen has solved this issue by only offering it to their Private Members Association.

NeuroNAD™ NAD+ Nasal Mist has the most impressive and highest absorption formula of all nasal sprays:

  • Pure NAD+ Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide 100g/ml
  • Bio Ocean minerals
  • Terpenes: Eucalyptol
  • Saline

Each bottle contains a total of 2,000 mg NAD+. Nasal sprays already have great bioavailability. Powered by GelTech ™ Technology, NeuroNAD gives you the strongest effects of any spray.

Plus, you get to enjoy the added benefits of high-potency ocean minerals and plant-based terpenes.

Those looking for a powerful NAD+ product specifically to optimize brain health & function should strongly consider NeuroNAD™ NAD+ Nasal Mist.

Cardio NAD+ is a brand new product I came across in August 2025, combining multiple synergistic NAD+ optimizers into one. Including, the famous NAD3. Could this be the best NAD3 supplement available?

Each three-capsule serving of HPN NAD+ Booster contains:

  • Niacin – 201 mg
  • Copper – 0.2 mg
  • Bergamot Fruit Extract – 500 mg
  • NAD3® – 312 mg
  • CoQ10 LEO-HB® 8X – 300 mg
  • FitNox® – 250 mg
  • Mekabu Extract – 250 mg
  • PeptiPump® – 200 mg
  • Nattokinase NSP-2™ – 100 mg

As you’ll notice, they chose to use the high-quality patented versions of many of the ingredients. Including NAD3, PeptiPump®, Nattokinase NSP-2™, CoQ10 LEO-HB® 8X, and FitNox®.

What’s special about NAD3 is that it actually helps fix the root causes of low NAD. The theacrine component of it confers additional energy and cognition benefits. Plus, NAD3 is clinically proven to help reduce cholesterol levels [R].

As the name implies, you also get various cardiovascular supporting ingredients. Such as a supercharged patented form of CoQ10, cardio-metabolic biomarker enhancing botanicals like bergamot, fucoidan to regenerate the glycocalyx (a vital lining of the blood vessel walls), and blood pressure & blood thickness regulating nattokinase.

Plus, a unique peptide complex.

I haven’t seen any other formulas like this one. I’ve personally never used it, but wouldn’t hesitate if I needed cardiovascular support.

If you’re mainly looking to improve cardiovascular health, Cardio NAD+ is a one of a kind NAD3+ enhanced supplement with ample other science-backed ingredients.

Biostack (formerly called Biostack Labs), is a quickly growing longevity supplements vendor becoming popular in the biohacking community. They offer a nice variety of products designed to slow the biological aging process. Their most popular, however, is called NAD Regen.

NAD Regen contains the famous NAD3 among other great longevity ingredients:

  • NAD3® (Wasabi Extract, Theacrine, Cuprous Niacin) – 311mg
  • Niacinamide – 125mg
  • Spermidine HCl (as Yüth™) – 5mg
  • Resveratrol 50% (Polygonum cuspidatum) – 200mg
  • Black Pepper Extract 95% Piperine (as BioPerine®) – 5mg

Another contender for the best NAD3 supplement. And that NAD3 contains 810mcg of Niacin and 200mcg of Copper. In addition to the NAD3, you also get another precursor called Niacinamide (a Vitamin B3 derivative).

Then you also get other popular anti-aging supplements, spermidine, and resveratrol, all in one. Resveratrol activates DNA-protective sirtuins and helps preserve NAD+. Spermidine works as a senolytic. My only tweak to their formula would be to swap the resveratrol with the superior sirtuin activator, pterostilbene.

I have a bottle of this on my desk and plan to give it a thorough test after I finish my Qualia NAD+.

It’s not the cheapest, but remember that this can replace dedicated supplements like resveratrol or spermidine (since they’re included). Biostack doesn’t offer a subscription, but you can save 27% when buying in bulk, and another 15% if you use my code.

Choose Biostack NAD Regen for a NAD3-enhanced formula that also contains the ideal dosages of several other longevity supplements.

Codeage is a newer supplement company that’s sprouted up with a wide variety of innovative liposomal formulas. They carry many of the popular supplement complexes, as well as hard-to-find single ingredients.

Codeage NAD+ Ultra is a newer product of theirs, designed to support the entire cellular energy generation process.

The ingredients within each three-capsule serving of Codeage NAD+ Ultra include:

  • NAD+ – 500mg
  • Quercetin Extract (Sophora japonica derived) – 300mg
  • Trans-Resveratrol (Japanese Knotweed Extract) – 180mg
  • Betaine Anhydrous (TMG) – 102.5mg
  • Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) – 250mcg
  • Riboflavin (P5P) – 1mg

They added betaine anhydrous and methylated vitamins to ensure that the NAD+ doesn’t deplete your methyl groups.

Plus, the inclusion of antioxidants and sirtuin activators should nicely complement the formula.

It’s definitely pricey, at about $3 per three-capsule serving. But if you want a paired-down version of this same product, their simple NAD+ with betaine version comes out to about $2.33 per serving.

While you’re at it, you can also grab other great ingredients all at once from this vendor.

Choose Codeage NAD+ Ultra for a liposomal product that includes methylation support, a sirtuin activator, and a generous dose of Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide.

What Makes a Great NAD+ Supplement?

I evaluated these NAD+ supplements across six criteria after testing 6 of 9 products over 3+ years as a CHEK Integrative Health Coach and School of Biohacking Instructor.

That rigor matters because independent lab testing by ConsumerLab has found that roughly half of NAD+ supplements contain little to no active ingredient. Third-party testing, transparent dosing, and patented raw materials are what separate the real products from expensive placebos.

Purity

Using a contaminated supplement virtually always does more harm than good. Quality supplements are always tested by third-party labs, and many of the best products proudly display their Certificates of Analysis (CoA) on their website. Scams among NAD boosters are notoriously common.

Generation

NMN, NR, and other precursors were the first generation of NAD boosters. In addition to the mediocre efficacy, they have some issues and potential drawbacks. NAD3 and other combinations of synergistic ingredients are the future and far better options.

Technology

Most herbs, botanicals, and supplements are well known to absorb poorly. Harsh stomach acid breaks them down. Advanced supplements use liposomes, phytosomes, or special ingredient stacks to ensure you maximally absorb and utilize the formula.

Synergies

Beyond NAD+, the best supplements also contain other powerful ingredients that complement and enhance the effects. Good formulas also slow the breakdown of NAD+ and activate sirtuins to maximize your benefits.

Dose

NAD+ supplement dosages vary tremendously. The ideal dosage depends on the delivery technology as well as your goals. Many of the products I reviewed didn’t make this list because each serving had a tiny and ineffective dose.

Form

You can buy NAD+ products in many different forms. Ranging from capsules (most popular) to powders, to liquids, to nasal sprays, even to suppositories. Each have distinct pros and cons. Liquids, nasal sprays, and suppositories absorb best and last the longest. Capsules and powders are cheaper and easier to find. Choose whichever is ideal for your situation.

Value

Most people consider the price of their NAD+ product. But when it comes to these cellular health supplements, there’s a huge variation. You can’t simply compare dosages of active ingredients. The best formulas often stack lower dosages with complimentary ingredients to yield better results (with fewer drawbacks). The products I’ve mentioned in this list tend to have greater value.

How Can You Boost the Effects of NAD+ Supplements?

If you’re looking to get the maximum benefits out of your purchase, you may want to consider these potent additions that most people overlook.

Upgrade your NAD+ with the following:

  1. Resveratrol: The best-known sirtuin activator, increases NAD+ up to 170% in certain organs, often already added to high-quality products [R]
  2. Pterostilbene: Similar to resveratrol but stronger and lasts longer (may impact cholesterol levels)
  3. Ginseng: A powerful adaptogen when combined with precursors like NMN, can improve NAD+ in some organs up to 200% [R]
  4. Quercetin: Stacks nicely with the above to amplify the cellular health benefits of NAD+ precursors, especially when exposed to stress [R]
  5. Polyphenols: These natural substances found within produce activated sirtuins and help protect cells when combined with a precursor
  6. Milk Thistle Extract: Silibinin, one of the active ingredients in this, appears to help protect tissues with combined with NAD+ boosters

The first three are my favorite, with the latter few still needing more NAD+ data.

Then we have a unique technology called Infopathy. This platform uses the information-carrying capacity of water to “imprint” it with the molecular signature of NAD+ precursors. As explained in my Infopathy review, this is as close as you can get to “digital drugs”.

How Much NAD+ Should You Take by Age?

Deciding how much NAD+ booster you’ll need depends on various factors, primarily age and product.

Here’s a simple approach to NAD+ supplement dosing by age:

  • Age 20 or under: skip entirely
  • Age 21-35: skip or take 0.5 serving
  • Age 36-40: take 0.5 serving
  • Age 41-60: take 1 serving
  • Age 61-85: take 1.5 serving
  • Age 86+: take 2 servings

This is the approach I would take. Make sure to read the label to ensure the safety of taking 1.5-2 servings per day.

NAD+ Supplements Questions & Answers

Are NAD+ supplements actually effective, or is it just marketing hype?

Multiple clinical trials show that NAD+ supplements can reliably increase cellular NAD+ levels by 40-90% within 2-8 weeks. Effectiveness, however, varies between depending on age, baseline NAD+ levels, and genetic factors.

Older adults and those with metabolic dysfunction typically see more pronounced benefits than healthy young adults.

What’s the difference between NAD+, NMN, NR, and NAD3?

NAD+ is the actual coenzyme your cells need. NMN and NR are precursors that convert to NAD+ in your body. NAD3 is a patented formula combining wasabi extract, theacrine, and cuprous niacin that addresses root causes of NAD+ decline rather than just providing precursors.

Complete formulas often combine multiple approaches for synergistic effects.

Are there any side effects or safety concerns with NAD+ supplements?

NAD+ supplements have a strong safety profile with mild side effects in <10% of users. They include: occasional flushing, mild stomach upset, or headaches.

To avoid side effects, start with lower doses and increase gradually. Avoid if pregnant/nursing or have liver/kidney issues. Long-term safety data beyond 20 weeks is limited.

Use extra caution if you have a personal history of cancer (NAD+ can theoretically fuel existing tumor metabolism), advanced liver disease, active methylation issues, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Cleveland Clinic also flags high-dose niacin forms for potential liver toxicity above 3g per day.

Why are complete NAD+ formulas better than single precursors like NMN or NR?

Complete formulas address three key longevity pathways: NAD+ production, breakdown prevention, and sirtuin activation.

Single precursors only boost production and have limitations like stability issues, potential side effects at high doses, and inability to activate downstream longevity pathways effectively.

Should I take NAD+ supplements if I’m under 30?

Healthy individuals under age 30 typically have adequate NAD+ levels and often see minimal benefits from supplementation.

Focus on natural NAD+ boosting strategies first: regular exercise, intermittent fasting, reducing EMF exposure, and adequate sleep. I’m 30, and personally, I notice only a slight energy increase.

How do NAD+ supplements compare to NAD+ IV therapy?

IV therapy delivers higher concentrations directly into bloodstream (500-1500mg per session) but is expensive, less researched, requires clinical setting, and has more side effect potential. Plus, it must break down into the precursors in the ECM of the cells before it can enter (except in neurons). Injections are better for those with gut issues or seeking neurological support.

Oral supplements are more practical for daily use, cost-effective, and provide sustained benefits when used consistently.

Can NAD+ supplements reverse aging?

No. NAD+ supplements show promise in supporting cellular health and slowing some aspects of aging (mitochondrial function, DNA repair, and metabolic health) but they do not actively reverse aging.

Should I test my intracellular NAD+ levels?

Current intracellular NAD+ tests are extremely volatile and unreliable so I suggest against testing. Those finances are better deployed towards products.

If the utility of these testing kits changes, I will update this article.

Is trigonelline a good NAD+ booster?

Recent research shows trigonelline directly increases NAD+ in cells, muscle, liver, kidney, and blood [R]. It works via the Preiss–Handler pathway, like niacin but without the flushing. Trigonelline is more chemically stable than NR and NMN but less potent and less researched.

How long does it take for NAD+ supplements to work?

Most people notice increased energy within the first 1-2 weeks of consistent use. Measurable changes in cellular NAD+ levels typically appear within 2-8 weeks, according to clinical trials. Full benefits for DNA repair, cognitive function, and longevity pathways may take 2-3 months of daily supplementation. In practice, most users report a 2 to 6 week ramp, and results track closely with baseline lifestyle. Sleep quality, exercise consistency, and fasting windows all amplify the effect.

When should I take my NAD+ supplement, morning or night, with or without food?

Take your NAD+ supplement in the morning on an empty stomach. NAD+ naturally rises in your active phase, so morning dosing aligns with your body’s own circadian rhythm and avoids any potential sleep interference from the energy boost.

Capsule and powder formulas absorb best on an empty stomach. Liposomal formulas and those paired with fat-soluble cofactors like CoQ10 or resveratrol absorb better with a small amount of dietary fat. Avoid pairing with coffee for the first hour if you tend to get jittery.

Do I need to take TMG (trimethylglycine) with NMN or NR?

NMN and NR get converted to NAD+ through methylation, a process that uses up your body’s methyl groups. Heavy long-term dosing can theoretically deplete methylation capacity, contributing to homocysteine buildup and brain fog.

Most people taking under 500mg of NMN or NR per day don’t need TMG. Those running higher doses, stacking multiple methylation-hungry compounds, or who have known MTHFR variants should add 500 to 1000mg of TMG per day. Multi-ingredient formulas like Healthgevity NMN 1000+ already include TMG for this reason.

What’s the Smartest Way to Boost Your NAD+ Levels?

NAD+ supplements blew up after Dr. David Sinclair’s Lifespan introduced NMN to the world. Several years later, the science has evolved.

I always recommend mastering the free strategies first. Regular exercise, heat and cold exposure, and quality sleep all naturally support NAD+ levels. My guide to boosting NAD+ naturally covers those in detail.

When you’re ready to supplement, skip the single-ingredient NMN and NR products. The multi-ingredient formulas in this list deliver better results at lower dosages without some of the potential drawbacks.

If longevity is your primary goal, pair your NAD+ supplement with a quality senolytic supplement to clear zombie cells first. For cellular energy, explore the best mitochondrial supplements. And if you’re building a full anti-aging stack, my all-in-one anti-aging supplement guide breaks down the best options.

Your experience will depend on your age, baseline NAD+ levels, and what you pair it with. Start with one product, track your energy and recovery for 30 days, then adjust.

  1. NAD itself can hardly be absorbed in the GI tract.
Why some of the supplements in the list still choose NAD, not NAD precursors?

    • Hey Arthur. You’re right. These days, few companies add standard NAD. The ones that do generally encapsulate it inside liposomes which bypasses the issue of stomach acidity. There’s a lot less research on it compared to the precursors though. Although, subjectively, I feel a stronger effect from the combo of liposomal NR, NMN, and NAD+ than any one on its own matching dose.

  2. Hello, I have been taking Nad + for a year now, and also take AKG by Renue, also Quercetin, & Resveratrol. This week I had some bad pain in my back so stopped taking the AKG since this was the last one I had just started taking, should I continue with AKG? And should I go over to Biostack NAD Regen since I was looking for Spermidine anyway?

    • Hey Sharry!

That sounds concerning. Definitely check with your healthcare provider as I am not a doctor. Personally, I would stop taking it if the pain (without clear cause) started immediately after a change. I’d consider Biostack as an alternative!
